We are looking for an experienced manager to oversee our compliance with Data, Health and Safety regulations to ensure UWC RCN adheres to legal standards, internal policies and accreditation standards. The successful candidate will be a member of the Leadership Team and will report to the Rektor.

You will be responsible for identifying relevant regulations in all aspects and levels of business as well as providing guidance on compliance matters. You are well-versed in legal guidelines and corporate governance best practices, keeping in mind the UWC Mission and Values and Red Cross Principles. You must be comfortable saying “no” when necessary, and be result-oriented.

The goal is to preserve the integrity of UWC RCN and UWC Connect by making sure the college stays on a lawful and ethical course, do all possible to ensure the safety of people (students, employees and visitors) and build trust with all stakeholders.

Work area

The Data, Health and Safety Compliance Manager (Compliance Manager/CM) establishes and maintains management and administrative systems, policies and processes to enable UWC RCN and its daughter companies to remain compliant with legal requirements, internally established control systems, accreditation standards and recognised best practice for UWC and international residential schools and associated programmes.

Key areas of compliance must be embedded within UWC RCN policies and policy implementation regarding GDPR, Working Environment Act, Education Act, Transparency Act, Accreditation Standards, Risk Analysis, Safeguarding, Outdoor Education Qualifications, Transport Routines and Internal Controls. These should be framed within the ethical framework of the UWC Mission and Values and the Red Cross Principles. Developing and overseeing control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal guidelines and internal policies, evaluating the efficiency of controls and improving them continuously, revising procedures and providing reports to periodically identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues are essential functions of this position.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Verbal and written fluency in Norwegian and English language
  • Relevant higher education; BSc/BA in law, finance, business administration or related field
  • Knowledge about relevant laws and regulations in Norway and Internationally
  • Awareness of GDPR, Transparency Act, Working Environment Act
  • Knowledge about or interest in educational and international institutions
  • A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Experience in use of internal control systems and risk management

Desirable Qualifications and Competencies

  • Proven experience as compliance manager
  • Good knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping
  • A business acumen partnered with a dedication to legality
  • Methodical and diligent with outstanding planning abilities
  • An analytical mind able to “see” the complexities of procedures and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail oriented
